Hello PRSA Philly!
Nonprofit work does good and feels good. Over the years, I’ve worked in-house, freelance and pro bono for organizations tackling issues ranging from gun violence prevention to eating disorder prevention. Last fall, I worked with a child-mentoring nonprofit during my MBA capstone project, which rekindled my passion for the industry.
When I grabbed the reins of PRSA Philly, the board and I committed to supporting the nonprofit community in a meaningful way. We formed the inaugural Nonprofit Resource Committee, which is setting forth on its maiden voyage next month with our first Speed Coaching event. In a speed dating-style format, the event will offer area nonprofits the opportunity learn about public relations-such as media relations and social media-from top PRSA practitioners.
Let’s think about this a few ways:
1. Are you a nonprofit leader who’s ready to hire an in-house PR specialist or outside firm, but doesn’t know where to start? Or could your existing internal staff use some basic training?
2. Does your agency have a nonprofit client that could benefit from some PR dialogue to improve your working relationship?
3. Does your corporation support local nonprofits through corporate social responsibility initiatives, and perhaps this training could benefit the leaders of that organization?
PRSA Philly would love to bring more nonprofit folks into the fold to figure out how we can best support the PR efforts of the organizations that better our communities.
Keep your eyes peeled for more nonprofit events and initiatives that we’ve got in store this year. If you’d like to get involved with the Nonprofit Resource Committee, please contact our chair Kory Aversa at kory@aversapr.com.
Kindest,
Blair
